“A villain must be a thing of power, handled with delicacy and grace. He must be wicked enough to excite our aversion, strong enough to arouse our fear, human enough to awaken some transient gleam of sympathy. We must triumph in his downfall, yet not barbarously nor with contempt, and the close of his career must be in harmony with all its previous development.”
A. Repplier | Compromises (1904)
I finally finished Knightfall Part Three: Knightsend
A really fast read… Bane is mentioned once or twice, I think, which is funny to me. The first two books in this series are about Bane’s takeover of Gotham. Valley stops him, and then becomes power hungry, and CRAZY. Really sad actually…
I also loved how Batman realizes he should’ve asked Dick Grayson/Nightwing to take on the mantle instead of Valley. Situational Irony - we know Dick becomes Batman in the future anyway!
I posted some really cool images yesterday and today from this epic tale. Some neat moments with Dick and Tim.
Knightfall is a great series! I took way too long to get through them all - I started the first one last summer, and read half of the second one. I didn’t get back to it until a few weeks ago! Some plot points are lost from that time gap, but I still understood everything fine.
I’m also somehow in the middle of:
-Catwoman: When in Rome (Loeb and Sale!!),
-Robin: Year One, and
-Batgirl: The Lesson (Stephanie Brown batgirl)
Must finish these soon…
I’m more than halfway through the last one!
So cool how Bane isn’t even the antagonist in this one…
